Bill has been providing clients with legal counsel in the areas of estate planning, estate administration, probate, bankruptcy, business and real estate since 1980. His relationship with the law, however, dates back as far as he can remember. Growing up in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Bill learned firsthand from his father, Edwin Preston, and his uncle, John Preston, both reputable trial lawyers in Virginia Beach.
Bill was one of the Founding Directors for The Restorative Justice Institute; the mission of which is to bring authentic restorative justice to bear on the criminal justice system. Based on ancient principles drawn from the Judeo- Christian scriptures, restorative justice inspires innovative approaches to solving today’s crime problems.
Bill has a combined 35 years of experience in law and restorative justice. He has developed and helped implement key reforms, policies and programs; developed the first course curriculum on restorative justice at the university level within the United States; developed and drafted the “Victim Offender Mediation/Dialogue Resolution” with the Criminal Justice System of the American Bar Association; directed the organization’s criminal justice reform and public education efforts through television, radio, print and other media; prepared and delivered presentations and written reports for legislative hearing and briefings; and trained mediators and program administrators in criminal mediation matters.
